John Cleese was previously married to American actress, writer, and psychotherapist Connie Booth. The two met in the United States. They got married in 1968 after dating for some time. Connie became John’s first wife. They have only one child Cynthia Cleese. The ex-couple have worked together in the past. They became famous for writing the scripts and starring in both renditions of the sitcom Fawlty Towers.

John Cleese’s second marriage was to the late American model and actress Barbara Trentham who was born Barbara Lynn Schilling. The pair met at a Monty Python performance. At the time, Barbara was employed in Los Angeles as a reporter and producer of Those Amazing Animals.

They dated and got married in 1981. They gave birth to Camilla Cleese on January 24, 1984, in England, United Kingdom. John Cleese and Barbara Trentham separated in 1987 and divorced three years later in 1990. Barbara died on August 2, 2013, at age 68, from complications from leukemia. She died at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
